New Mills 3, Inter Cheadle 4

Stockport Metro League Division One, Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Inter staged a stirring second half fightback to clinch their first win of the season.

Trailing 3-1 with twenty minutes to go, it looked like being a similar story of dominating large parts of a game with nothing to show for it.

The home side were quick on the break but they must have been surprised at how the Cheadle defence stood aside to give them a free run on goal to take the lead midway through the first half.

Inter were looking dangerous from set pieces and came close on a couple of occasions and it was a corner in the last minute of the half that gave them their equaliser, Kay slotting home after a goalmouth scramble.

The second half started with Inter battling their way up the slope to push ahead but they were caught on the break again by a slick move and crisp finish.

Five minutes later and the home side's advantage was extended from the penalty spot as the game seemed to be slipping away.

But heads did not drop and Inter struck back almost immediately. A fine passing move found Liam on the left and he unleashed a cracking left foot shot to put the visitors right back in it.

With New Mills now on the back foot Cheadle pressed for a leveller and came close on several occasions but the home defence looked strong and well organised.

When the equaliser did come it was a brilliant piece of improvisation from Danny, skillfully keeping the ball in play as it evaded the home 'keeper and to slotting it home from a tight angle.

They left the best til last though and the winner was another brilliant team effort.

Some good passing play in the middle sent Kay racing down the left and his pinpoint cross was powered home with a pildedriver of a header by Danny.

There was still time for Cheadle to break and almost grab a fifth as New Mills piled forward but the home 'keeper saved bravely at Kay's feet.

Next match: Great Moor A (away) 7/10/07
