Inter Cheadle 3, Norbury
Athletic 1
Sunday, March 30th
2008 Stockport Metro League Division One
Inter notched up some more
league points but made hard work of it in a strangley subdued
game. Maybe it was a hangover after the excitement of the
cup run, or perhaps the Inter players fancied their hour back
after the clocks had gone forward because they didn't really
get into gear until the 60 minute mark.
Once again the home pitch was
in fantastic shape despite the recent deluge but instead of
helping the home side play their passing game, Inter struggled
to get the ball under control and string passes together and
the first half passed with only one incident of note at each
end.
First, Dane made a brilliant
save to tip over a Norbury effort and then just as the game
seemed to be heading to half time goal-less, Femi released
Josh with an excellent through-ball and he made no mistake,
beating the visiting 'keeper with a low shot in the 32nd minute.
Norbury came out for the second
half determined to get themselves back into a game which was
there for the taking with neither midfield taking control
and they got their reward when they found the equaliser in
the 40th minute.
Inter tried to get back in
front but Norbury sensed victory and were testing the home
defence who stood strong, depsite a couple of scares.
Cheadle regained the lead on
the hour mark when a brilliant cross from Brandon was struck
home first time by Tom P, his shot looping over the Norbury
'keeper and into the roof of the net.
Inter then pressed for more
goals but had Dane and Flynn to thank as Norbury almost scored
again with two good attacks and their number four looking
very dangerous on the break.
The points were clinched in
the 70th minute when Josh raced clear to net his second of
the game. Cheadle will need to be up for it from the start
next week if they want to make it back to back league wins
against Bollington.
