 Inter
Cheadle 1, Great Moor County B 0
Stockport Metro Cup, Sunday, November 25th, 2007
Cheadle showed a vast improvement on the previous two weeks to progress to the second round of the Metro Cup.
Although still appearing to be slightly lacking in confidence, there was no shortage of graft and discipline, while Great Moor looked keen to repeat their success of seven days earlier.
But they found an Inter team that had done their homework and was determined to shore up at the back and complete their first clean sheet of the season.
With the pitch in excellent condition despite the heavy rain during the previous 24 hours, Cheadle were able to construct some slick passing moves.
The first of these almost gave them the lead in the tenth minute but Danny's shot was just wide of the right hand upright.
In the 17th minute, the paitient build-ups paid off when a neat pass from Tom P put Danny through to cooly beat the opposing 'keeper.
Inter then pressed hard for a second but had to be content with the slenderest of half time leads.
As expected, Great Moor came at Inter in the second period and once again Flynn was called upon to make some great stops in the Cheadle goal to keep that precious 'goals against' column reading 'zero'.
There were chances to increase the lead further on the break but Inter found the visiting 'keeper in good form also.
With injuries meaning an agonising five minutes added time, Inter somehow clung on to win not only their way into the next round, but that all-elusive first clean sheet of the season.
Next week Inter travel to Great Moor to complete a run of five meetings against the club's A and B sides in just nine games, as they look to get some much-needed league points on the board.
