Inter Cheadle 2, Poynton 4
Sunday, September 16th
2007
Stockport Metro League Division 1
Inter were left wondering how
they didn't walk away with all the points in this second home
clash with Poynton in two weeks.
Just like the pre-season friendly
a fortnight ago, the game was finely poised going into the
last ten minutes, but it was Poynton that found the extra
goals to seal the game.
Unlike the friendly, large
parts of this game were dominated by the home side in a match
full of exceptional strikes on goal.
After an even opening twenty
minutes, Poynton grabbed the lead they had been threatening
following two efforts that had hit the Cheadle bar. A fantasticly
hit volley from the right hand side giving Flynn no chance.
But Inter came straight back
at them and on the stroke of half time a fine through ball
from Josh found Liam on the left and he buried a superbly
struck left foot drive beyond the visiting 'keeper.
The second half was one way
traffic in favour of the home side and it was no surprise
when Inter took the lead ten minutes in. As the Poynton 'keeper
came out to clear the danger, John was lurking ready to pounce
and planted a stunning 35 yard shot into the net.
Cheadle pressed some more,
sensing a third, and Poynton appeared to be on the rack. But
with fifteen minutes remaining they began to regain their
composure and struck the equaliser from close range.
Undeterred, Cheadle pushed
to regain the lead and came close with a Tom header from a
corner going just wide and a great long range effort from
Josh that just cleared ther bar. But it was on the breakaway
that Poynton always looked dangerous and it was another fine
strike that made it 3-2 to the visitors with ten minutes to
go.
There was still time for more
drama as Cheadle never gave up and were unlucky on a couple
of occasions before a late penalty which was well saved by
Flynn but scored from the resulting scramble gave the scoreline
a harsh look.
