Prestbury 4, Inter Cheadle 2

Stockport Metro League Division 1
Inter Cheadle discovered how
cruel life in the First Division can be as they let a two
goal lead slip in their first game of the season at Prestbury.
After an even exchange, Inter
took the lead after a slick move, last season's player of
the year Danny slotting home a sweet left foot volley from
close range from a Josh cross on ten minutes.
Three minutes later it was
two. Kay ran onto a perfect throughball and beat the defender
for pace, clinicially toeing the ball past the advancing 'keeper.
A brief lapse at the most vulnerable
time saw last season's Division 2 champions pull a goal back
straight from the restart but then Cheadle dominated the rest
of the first half with five good chances to increase their
lead either being saved, cleared or narrowly missing the target.
The 2-1 half time scoreline
meant that Prestbury were very much in it and the danger was
always there to make Cheadle regret their missed chances.
It was no great surprise when,
ten minutes into the second half, the equaliser came for the
home team.
To their credit, Cheadle heads
did not go down and they deserved to be back in front when
Dane smacked a beautiful long range effort against the Prestbury
bar with the 'keeper well beaten. But the home side remained
strong in defence and always a threat from set pieces. With
ten minutes left, a free kick from the edge of the box on
the right hand side was lofted over and headed beyond Flynn
who was powerless to prevent the third goal.
Inter pushed on again for an
equaliser and were caught by a sucker punch on the break and
another dangerous cross was buried to leave them wondering
how they had let their two goal lead slip, but it's a steep
learning curve and the boys will come good and become better
footballers along the way.
